(Adult Content) An X-generation memoir that doubles as a short attention span trilogy for the A.D.D. crowd. In these economically challenging times, its important to get the most out of your book purchases. The author, frustrated with an impotent undergraduate degree, accidentally went to law school. After graduating, in an attempt to change the road he was on, he ended up in Asia, where everything went from the wok into the fire. Upon returning to the U.S., premature dementia kicked in as he lost his identity as well as his mind trying to survive with a bad credit rating while under constant (either real or perceived) attack. Its a funny story if you're not him.

Seouled Out Andrew HendersonHenderson 9781257868049 Books

This book is a great read on how to keep your belief in life that something fantastic is going to happen right around the corner. The author is able to tell a very entertaining story of his life, how he ended up in S. Korea, and being able to find the humorous aspects of some not so wonderful times. I loved reading about the different cultures and how he was able to become a true part of them while there.

Unfortunately, when he makes it back to the States, he has to morph, again, into a different person as Owen D'Monet. Once again he is able to relate the story with humor but you also start to really feel for him as he tries to find his place/career while bumping up against Sally Mae.

His story feels very relevant to some of what is happening in today times. I felt it was a great story of success. The definition of failure is giving up and that is one thing Andrew Henderson=Henderson never did. A great story of how life rarely ends up being anything at all like you thought or hope it to be.

Seouled Out Andrew HendersonHenderson 9781257868049 Books Reviews

Seouled Out written by Andrew Henderson-Henderson is a hilarious story about a recent law school graduate who is in need of employment to help pay off his numerous credit card and student loan debts. He decides to be daring (or just plain stupid) and takes a job in Japan teaching English to adults, with a small stopover in hell...I mean South Korea. I haven't laughed this hard while reading a book in a long time and had to keep reminding myself that this isn't fiction. This all actually happened to the author. It's his story. I pitied him a lot...while I was hysterically giggling of course.
My favorite chapter was set in Thailand, involves fellow countryman and titled Oh.Canada. Already in the book he mentioned a few times how the Canadians he meets in South Korea are rather rude and hate Americans. I was somewhat embarrassed by their actions but in this chapter I began to believe we would be redeemed. He met not one but two people from my home province. Unfortunately the hilarity that ensues is at his expense. I promise we aren't all like these two individuals.
This is what this book does to you. It draws you in, makes you root for this guy, feel happy when something works out for him and angry when someone treats him badly. Andrew is such a likeable person that I even felt the same as he did when ditched by his Canadian "friends" in a strange bar, minus the drunken part. He eventually does make it back to the United States to try and start a career. This is only the first part of this delightfully funny book.
The second part of the book is based on a beaten down character named Owen D'Monet. Sounding much like the author himself, young Owen is struggling to make a living in Boise, dodging creditors until an inevitable end. There's also a Canadian tidbit to the ending. I'm beginning to think the author is obsessed with us. This is a great book, full of lots of fun moments, albeit at the expense of the author who seems like he could be any one of us.
"Seouled out" by Andrew Henderson is not only a great piece of writing in "Humor" category, but is also, author's own biography. Andrew's writing is unique in a way that, readers can easily relate to his work and will get bonded with him from the first page. Since this is a biography, author himself is the protagonist. This book showcases experiences from author's life, in simple and vivid language. This book keeps its readers hooked till the last page.

The story starts with author describing how he got 'Flunked' in graduation exam at law school or more commonly known as "Flaw school" in some secret circles. Author describes reasons he couldn't make it through the graduation exam, and one of the reason is, "He hated his colleagues", and who wouldn't as some of them "wanted to sue God for blessing America" while others, "wanted to put on a criminal charge on God, for having grace shed on them without their consent". With law school failure seal on forehead, author had nothing better to do than find a job.

Book explains in detail Andrews escapades for getting a job, and finally when he gets one, how he had to struggle to maintain it; being in new country and learning their language are not the only concerns of author...But soon he realizes that teaching is not a job for him, and he calls it quit, or to say it mildly, 'he moves on'.. And thus he ends up in Bangkok. In Bangkok author faces some situation I wouldn't even dare to imagine myself in. Later in the book with no money left, Andrew becomes nothing more than a street wanderer who has no residence or any means of support... it is to be seen who will save him?

This book is extremely funny. There is use of some foul language but it's never been used excessively. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to any adult looking for bit of entertainment. At the end of the day I just thank the Gods; for not putting me in situations that author faced. Brilliantly paced and ridiculously humorous this book scores 4 of 5 stares.

Mark Taylor discovers first hand that no good deed goes unpunished when the old camera he found during a freelance job in an Afghanistan bazaar gives him more than great photos. It triggers dreams of disasters. Tragedies that happen exactly as he envisions them. He learns that not only can he see the future, he can change it. Then the unthinkable happened and everyone ignored his frantic warnings. Thousands die. Suddenly, the Feds are pounding on his door and the name they have for Taylor isn't urban hero. It's enemy combatant. And, it means they can do anything they want to him. Anything at all.

No Good Deed Book One of the Mark Taylor Series A Psychological Thriller (Audible Audio Edition) Daniel Penz MP McDonald Mary McDonald Books

I am surprised by the 5 star reviews. Most of the book centered around Mark being tortured by the CIA in prison. The torture was difficult to read and you actually start feeling bad for the character. However, there wasn't much to the book. It just drags on and finally when he's let out, the character never looks for the person who framed him. I read to the end because I really wanted to know what happened to him and if he got back together with the girlfriend, but there wasn't much to the story. The book was very easy reading, very elementary. I love reading complicated books and learning words I've never heard of before. This was more like "See Jane run, run, run, run"!. I'll stick to my James Patterson, David Baldacci, Michael Crichton, types of books. Men right better psychological thrillers (I'm a woman)!

No Good Deed Book One of the Mark Taylor Series A Psychological Thriller (Audible Audio Edition) Daniel Penz MP McDonald Mary McDonald Books Reviews

This is so good I wanted it to go longer. From the first to the last word you won't be able to put it down. In my case I had the kindle version and I carried my kindle with me while I cleaned up the garden.
This is one incredably exciting novel. The characters are very believable and well written. I really didn't like the two CIA characters. As for the "black site" I really believed what went on there. What happened to Mark after his "detainment" is very realistic.
After everything Mark went through he still put himself in danger to "do the right thing."
There are 5 books in this series and I am definately going to get them.
This is a roller coaster ride. The book details Mark Taylor's interrogations and then innocence as he sees dreams from the future, in addition to pictures of deadly events before they happen on his antique camera. This reminded me of 'Early Edition,' the serial.
This book has some very painful moments. I mean how Mark does not go crazy in that cell is beyond me. The Federal agencies really suck the life out of him and frankly terrorist or otherwise, I'm not for torture of anyone. Its amazing that the public is not aware of it and I'm surprised that Mark's family or Jessie didn't treat him more gently after what he'd been through. The story resolves well and its pretty fast. A bit too forgiving, but its a well paced read. Mark makes you feel a full range of emotions and some of it can hit you hard. I love all the descriptions of food in this book. It made me hungry. Good read!
I’m a voracious reader and have been since I was a little girl. Now retired, the quantity of books I read has grown proportionally. To avoid spending my book money on books I may have already read, I keep a spreadsheet of all I’ve read and all I want to read in the year ahead. The short note I wrote myself about this book was, “SO VERY, VERY GOOD. JUST WOW”. A few years from now, when I see that entry I’ll remember just how good a writer M.P. McDonald really is.

One thing is certain; “No Good Deed” is different from anything I’ve ever read. Since 99% of what I read is in the mystery, crime, suspense and thrillers genre, this book fit me to a T. I was about halfway in when I cried real tears. I can’t remember the last time a book had me in tears and mine were not tears of sorrow, but because the scene I was reading had touched my heart. That folks is a good book when it grabs you and pulls you into the story as if you were a part of it.

Mary McDonald has a great character with Mark Taylor and she developed him and all of the supporting characters masterfully. I can’t wait to read the subsequent three books in this series. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a seriously good mystery thriller.
What would you do if you bought a curious vintage camera at a street market in the Middle East, and discovered that the camera took photos of a tragic event that was yet to happen? This is the dilemma the protagonist finds himself in. In his case, he feels compelled to prevent or mitigate the circumstances. And of course, he learns that by alerting the authorities ahead of time, he falls under suspicion himself. Eventually, he falls into the hands of the U.S. Government and declared an Enemy Combatant for trying to warn the police of the attack on the World Trade Center before it happens. Unfortunately, this volume is only part of the story. Half of this volume is devoted to describing in detail his treatment in a government prison being interrogated (read tortured), the loss of everything he holds dear (his job, friendships, belongings and respect) and the PTSD that ensues. Towards the end of the book, he is rebuilding his life and beginning to find redemption. I suspect that the good part of the story -the best part of the story- is in the next volume (available for sale on ).
What an interesting novel.

I read this book in one sitting because I found it fascinating. I enjoyed the original premise and the way M.P. McDonald handled the language. It was both well written and plotted. The suspense started out immediately and continued throughout the book.

The descriptions of the torture were horrific, but it also added a measure of realism to the book. I have no doubt that this kind of behavior goes on. Mark's strength of character was remarkable. I probably would have made stuff up just to get the torture to stop. But, no he hung in there and endured (with a few breaks), because he was innocent. He was not going to confess to something he did not do. I liked him and applaud his courage.

I have already purchased the second in the series and will be reading that book soon. Very well done, Ms. McDonald!
